How to add Google Analytics to Facebook Fan Pages

If you are the administrators of a fan page on Facebook you may be interested to know that there was a method discovered to insert Google Analytics code on pages and track details of visits.

The only tool available to administrators so far has been the “Insights” that provide statistics on the number of clicks, fans, and other demographic factors. To view the page hits FAN there is another trick: you go in management (clicking on edit page) and notice the little box on the right of the insights that show the unique visitors and pageviews. Unfortunately, these statistics are not updated daily and are totally unreliable.

The addition of Google Analytics, so we can have updated statistics about Fan Pages, is a needed advancement for anyone managing Facebook Fan Pages.

Facebook

Quickly explain the procedure and then follow the instructions. Facebook does not allow the use of Javascript code, the trick is to put the analytics code as an image with the tag <img> and use cookies.

Instructions:
  1. Create an account on Google Analytics , if you have not already, and create a new profile by entering the site facebook.com if you have the username. Write down the ID of the tracking code (example code: UA-3123123-2)
  2. Create tags <img> to your page (and repeat this process for each page you want to track) using this online tool made available by the author: Google Analytics link generator for Facebook pages.
  3. Add the application Static FBML to the page, this application developed by Facebook, lets you add a box with HTML pages into Fan Pages.
  4. Place a box to the page using the application and paste the code generated in step 2. Here’s an example.

At this point, the visits will be tracked and you will find statistics in your Analytics account. Most experts have noticed the generated tag code which uses the author’s servers.

It can use your server by following the instructions and download the file by reading the’ original article in the “For Advanced Users”.

For problems and questions do not hesitate to leave comments. Good tracking at all!
